Let me introduce myself …
Hi, I’m Mario Aiello – a retired agility warrior from a major Swiss bank.
What frustrates me most? Poor agile adoption, illusionary scaling, and the lack of true business agility.
I believe agility should be fit purpose, context, and practice – and continuously evolve.
Active in the agile space since 2006, my consulting journey began in 2012, helping a digital identity business entity adopt Scrum at team level. That work led to the design of an Agile Operating System for the entire organization.
Today, as an independent consultant, I help organizations unlock sustainable agility – guided by adaptive intelligence: sensing challenges, learning fast, and adapting with purpose.
Why Adaptive Ways
This space is where I share my gathered experience from the past twenty years dealing with team, organizational, and business agility. After almost a year of joining SubStack as a reader, I thought I could make my thinking available to others. The current state of agility worries me, and I'm taking advantage of my newly "retired" status to put pen to paper.
A place to share my thoughts end experience
My goal is to reach individuals, teams, and organizations caught in Agile Theater – those who'd like to transform their time, effort, and money from non-profitable, troubled, or dead-end agile initiatives into something meaningful. Leaders, managers, coaches, and practitioners who feel compelled to discuss their insights and challenges.
I believe my thoughts and experience might help those in such situations, or spark conversations about topics that go beyond traditional agile.
What to expect
From this SubStack, you can expect my insights, practical suggestions and recommendations, and opportunities to respond to requests for help and collaboration.
My agile thinking has evolved over twenty years, and I never took the time to write about it. I've accumulated a wealth of notes that I'm now distilling into more formal writing to share with this audience and community.
I'll publish weekly (mainly Tuesdays), organized by themes. I'll start by explaining my journey in the agile space and my view of Adaptive Intelligence. Then I'll share approaches I've created along the way: Simple Agile, The Agile Operating System, the Agile Fitness Model, Beyond Agile toolkit, Business Agility, Reverse Validation, and more. The rest will be relevant thoughts from past engagements.
Join the conversation
Subscriptions are free, giving you access to all articles and occasional compilations in booklet form. If you'd like to support my retirement "dolce farniente" project (sweet idleness, as the Italians say), a thank you, a coffee, or a request for action would be wonderful.
What agile challenges are you facing in your organization? I'd love to hear you thoughts and start the conversation.
